Pooling four hospital waiting lists
Four sites, four separate queues. We pooled them and freed sixty beds.
Castellan ran four hospitals within forty miles of each other and four separate waiting lists. A patient could wait eleven months at one site while a theatre stood half-used at another. Each site had its own consultants, its own booking team and its own view of what counted as fair.
We pooled the lists across the six specialties where clinical risk allowed it, and wrote the rules that govern who moves and who does not. The work was as much negotiation as analysis: consultants kept a defined say over their own patients, and pooling applied only where waiting was the greater risk.
Sixty beds came back into use without a new building. The longest wait fell by four months inside the first quarter, and the pooled list is now run by Castellan's access team.
